Plan your vegetable garden with your area's climate.

Draw your beds, place your plants and Huertijo tells you when to sow, water and harvest where you live, using your area's climate averages. And you watch it grow, week by week, in pixel art.

A pixel-art garden bed with tomatoes, lettuces, carrots and strawberries ready to harvest.

What makes it different

Dates adjusted to you

Tomatoes are sown from March to September in Seville and from June to July in Burgos. Huertijo works out each plant's window from the temperatures and frosts of the area where you grow, and when something can't be grown where you live, it tells you why.

A garden you'll enjoy looking at

Every plant goes through its stages (seed, sprout, growing, ready to harvest) with its own drawing. Move the date to see your garden in July, with leaves falling in autumn and snow where it snows.

Your journal and your calendar

Tell us when you sow and your calendar will tell you when to water, treat and harvest each plant. In the journal you note what happens, with photos, and how much you pick.

When to sow, area by area

Sowing months worked out from each area's 1991-2020 climate averages.

The windows come from each month's average temperature and frosts. They don't know whether you have a greenhouse or a shady bed: that's why the app warns you rather than forbidding anything.

What you can do in your Huertijo

  • What to sow now

For each plant: whether this month is in time, how many days its window has left, or when it opens.

  • A calendar that writes itself

Sowing, watering, pest checks, care and harvest, with watering adjusted to each month's rain and heat.

  • Beds, paths and rotation

Draw your garden as it really is. It warns you if you repeat a family in the same spot or put bad neighbours together.

  • Journal and harvest

Note what happens, with photos, and how much you pick; the season's totals add up by themselves.

Getting started

  1. Sign up with your email.
  2. Draw your garden and choose your area.
  3. Place your plants: the calendar writes itself.

Questions

How much does it cost?
Nothing while the beta lasts. If that changes we'll say so here before it happens, and what you already have in your account won't be locked.
Which areas does it cover?
Today it has climate data for 51 areas across Spain and for Buenos Aires. If your garden is far from your province's capital (in the hills, or on the coast of an inland province) pick the area most like it: the dates are that area's.

Where do the dates come from?
From the 1991-2020 climate normals: each month's average temperature, its lows and the months with frost. With that, Huertijo works out whether the seed will come up, whether the plant has time before the cold, and whether it needs a winter it won't get. They're thirty-year averages, not a weather forecast: an odd year is still odd. Normales climatológicas 1991-2020, Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET), España. Estadísticas climatológicas 1991-2020, Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN), Argentina. What if I have a greenhouse, or my garden is unusual?
Huertijo warns, it doesn't forbid: you can sow outside the window and it tells you so. What it doesn't do yet is change the window for a greenhouse.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It works in the browser, on your phone and on your computer.
Can I take my data with me?
Yes: a copy of each garden that can be imported again, a download of your whole account, and the calendar as a subscription on your phone. And if you delete your account, all of it goes.
Does this page use cookies?
No. This page sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser: the simulator forgets your bed when you close the tab. The app does use the cookies it needs for your session, and explains them in its cookie policy.

Your area already has its dates. All that’s missing is your garden.
